What is the Project:

1) Going to Map 8 IDPs Camps - 6 Santhalis (an ethnic group displaced in 1996 & 1998 during Bodoland Movement*) and 2 Muslims camps in District of Chirang - with details like population, origin of this population, children upto age of 6, adolescent girls, children in the school going age, etc.

Target Audience: Researchers, students or anybody who wants simple information of location and statistics.

Outcome: Online map with statistics, photographs and feedback facilities.

Tools: Google Map as a base map.

Challenges: Getting those particulars villages on Google Map. Lars is going to help me in this matter.

STEPS:

      1. Data Collection. -------- ----------------------Completed
      2. learning work on Google Map---------------------Completed
      3. Making Map--------------------------------------Need to do (Expected Time: 2 Days)

2) Going to map amenities of each camp in detail, including households, latrines, handpumps, schools, anganwadi centres, BPL, AAY, NREGA cards etc in different layers so that we can compare these data and advocate for better facilities in terms of number and accessibility both. Later I can add on this as I will get the opportunity, but for time being this is enough.

Target Audience: Mainly government officials, but if some relief agencies want to use it for providing services, they can use it.

Outcome: Digital map but not necessarily online, but it will be available on demand (need to ask the Community).

Tools: Google Map as a base map & then will use GPS device to create map of these camps.

Challenge: Getting GPS Device because right now we do not have resources to buy GPS device.

STEPS:

       1. Statistics..........................................Completed
       2. Getting GPS Device..................................Uncomplete. (Need help from CIS)
       3. Physical Mapping------------------------------------Uncomplete. (expected time 5 Days in one camp)
       4. Actual Map------------------------------------------Uncomplete (expected time 1 week)

  • Bodoland Movement: Movement started by Bodo tribe in Lower Assam (western part of River Brahmaputra) in 1986 (need to confirm). The objective of the Movement was to get a sovereign state. They did not get a sovereign state or a state within the Indian federation but got an Autonomous Council under Schedule Six.
