Stepwells of Vadodara, Gujarat

Abstract: Mapping the numerous stepwells of Vadodara, Gujarat, which were integral parts of daily life earlier; and observing the difference in their architectural structures. I will be using google maps, google earth, google sketch up.

Purpose: • To bring light to the neglect that these once regal structures are undergoing • Delving into the history behind the construction of these step wells • Looking up the evolution of methods of making water available • Add the artistic touch to it to make the map different (eg. Graphic Artist Paula Scher’s Maps)

Data: The map will initially source its data from several individuals working for the preservation of heritage buildings, art historians etc. Textual data and additional media shall be taken from books written on the topic and the internet. I would personally visit the stepwells & like to also put my sketches in the map. These sketches can be used to create a limited edition book on stepwells.

Map type: Dynamic, customizable, collaborative

Technical: I have very little knowledge of mapping. Help required with integrating elements into a map.
